Does Nebraska License Independent Cannabis Testing Labs?

Requirements for Marijuana Testing Labs in Nebraska

There are no marijuana testing requirements for laboratories in Nebraska. According to the NE LB 588 (a proposed Nebraska Medical Cannabis Act), the Cannabis Enforcement Department shall provide standards for registration of all cannabis testing facilities if the bill leads to the legalization of cannabis in the state. The Department shall necessitate a cannabis testing facility to obtain an International Organization for Standardization accreditation. Any cannabis testing laboratory shall be required to possess an ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation to legally carry out marijuana testing operations within its facility.

Nebraska Required Tests for Cannabis Products

As marijuana is currently illegal in Nebraska, there are no required tests for cannabis in the state. However, LB 588 proposed the following must be accurately observed when marijuana products are tested in licensed cannabis testing laboratories:

  • Concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol
  • Identification and presence of mold and fungus
  • Presence and composition of chemicals including but not limited to herbicides, growth regulators and pesticides
